Sculptor Richard Rezac (born 1952) abstracts an organic thing, a mundane mechanical shape, or a nonverbal emotion or experience, down to a collection of pure two-dimensional geometric forms, and then reassembles them in three dimensions. He erases any hierarchical distinction between the organic and the geometric, allowing them to recombine with equal status. Each of his pieces has as internally logical order based on geometry, but the choice of that compositional order and the choice of materials seem intuitive and poetic.

Rezac has exhibited at Feature, New York; Shoshana Wayne Gallery, Santa Monica; Feigen, Inc., Chicago; Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; Artgarden, Amsterdam; and Blackfish Gallery, Portland among others. He earned a BFA from Pacific Northwest College of Art, Portland; and an MFA from Maryland Institute College of Art Baltimore.
