Kaja Silverman (born 1947) is a foremost writer and scholar in the areas of film and gender theory, feminism, psychoanalysis, philosophy, and the study of photography and time-based visual art. She has written seven books including World Spectators (2000); Speaking About Godard (1998); and The Subject of Semiotics (1982).

In the talk Extreme Love, Silverman will examine Private Hungary, a documentary project by filmmaker and media artist Peter Forgacs (born 1950), constructed from home movies from the 1930s and 1940s that conjure a lost time and a series of lost places.

Kaja Silverman received a PhD from Brown University. She taught at Yale University, Trinity College, Simon Fraser University, Brown University, and University of Rochester before being appointed Professor of Rhetoric and Film at the University of California, Berkeley in 1991.
