A painter, writer, performer, and musician, Jutta Koether (born 1958) willfully works across mediums, combining different materials and traditions, in order to press a dissonance in formalism. Her dynamic body of work spans a number of approaches, from multi-media collaborations with musician/artist Kim Gordon, to paintings that veer between garishly colored expressionist figuration and somber black assemblage abstractions, to Popish installations and punishing noise music performances.

Her work has been the focus of a traveling retrospective exhibition organized by K lnischer Kunstverein, Cologne. Additionally, she has presented solo exhibitions at Generali Foundation, Vienna, Austria; Reena Spaulings, New York; Daniel Buchholz Gallery, Cologne; Pat Hearn Gallery, New York; and Monika Sprueth Gallery, Cologne.
