In a practice similar to Japanese ikebana, Dike Blair (born 1952) carefully arranges elements from the designed environment to form his sculptural installations. These subtly balanced landscapes incorporate a range of media, including fluorescent lighting or light boxes, photo transparencies, sections of carpet, and plastic modular forms. Blair s photo-realist paintings also depict aspects of constructed surroundings and the relationship between the two practices is particularly interesting.

Blair has had solo exhibitions at Feature, Inc., New York; Volume, New York; SEAD, Antwerp, Belgium; Allston Skirt Gallery, Boston; Outcasts Inc., Paris; and Suburban Gallery, Chicago. Blair received an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1977.
