Suzie Silver and Lawrence Steger are bound to annoy both theory slaves and the perpetually politically correct. The performance artists undermine conventional racial and gender representations in their work. They are concerned with the structure of theater and its relationship to illusion, artifice, and reality. Their collaborations include Evenings of Smoke and Noise (Weimar Cabaret Revisited), Club Lower Links, coordinated and hosted with Leigh Jones, Iris Moore and Andy Soma; And the Winner Is benefit for Act-Up/Chicago, Club Berlin; Peccatum Mutum (The Silent Sin), Dortmund, West Germany; and La Vida Loca (The Crazy Life), Cabaret Metro and Organic Theatre, Chicago.

Silver earned a BA in Visual Art from the University of California, San Diego and an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Steger earned a BA from Antioch College, Yellow Springs, Ohio and an MFA in Performance from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
