Professional Artists Toolkit: Artists’ Contracts
Gallery 400
400 S. Peoria St.
Professional Artists Toolkit: Artists’ Contracts, led by Ahmet Öğüt, is a workshop focusing on his “Letter of Agreement” between artists and potential buyers or galleries. In collaboration with a local lawyer and workshop participants, Öğüt seeks ways in which the “Letter of Agreement” could find use in any context. This workshop is a platform to discuss issues around artist rights, contracts, ownership, and debt.
Born in Diyarbakir, Turkey in 1981, Ahmet Öğüt foregrounds the status and value of labor within the production of art, provoking a critical consciousness that calls into question the ethical and relational implications of the role of the artist and their work within the world. Öğüt has had solo exhibitions at the Van Abbemuseum, Horst-Janssen-Museum, The Blackwood Gallery at University of Toronto, and Checkpoint Helsinki. His work was featured in Performa 13 and he was artist in residence at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam, and Delfina Foundation in London.
