Open House Weekend for Admitted Graduate Students

All admitted graduate students are invited to join us on Friday, April 5 and Saturday, April 6, to learn more about the School of Architecture. Advanced registration is required.

Friday, April 5
 


10:00 – 12:45pm: Visit a class (optional)
Join Francesco Marullo’s Theory and History Seminar, The Architecture of Labor and the Space of Production (ARCH 532). Email Annemarie Poyo Furlong for the syllabus and details.

1:00 – 2:00pm: One-on-one meeting (optional)

2:00 – 4:00pm: Introduction to the UIC School of Architecture

Hear from the school director, Florencia Rodriguez, and faculty about the graduate
programs; get a tour of the School of Architecture building.


4:00 – 4:30pm: Meet UIC School of Architecture students

Talk to current students while enjoying light refreshments

4:30 – 6:00pm: Studio presentations

Current students and faculty will present in-progress work for Spring 2024 design
studio courses (ARCH 552, 554, and 567).


6:00 – 7:00pm: Garofalo Exhibition opening

Attend the opening of the 2023-2024 Garofalo Exhibition, presented by this year’s
fellow, Cedric Van Parys. The Garofalo Fellowship brings an emerging designer from anywhere in the world to teach and research at UIC for one year.

Saturday, April 6

10:00 – 1:00pm
UIC in Chicago, meet at the Modern Wing entrance of the Art Institute of Chicago
(159 E. Monroe Street). Hear from faculty-led firms Norman Kelley and Wheeler
Kearns about their projects and practices while visiting locations in downtown Chicago

1:00 – 3:00pm
Lunch at UrbanLab, 3209 South Morgan Street (transportation provided) Join UIC faculty members for a casual lunch at UrbanLab, a faculty-led architecture office in the Bridgeport neighborhood. While there, get a tour of the office and residence, which was designed by UrbanLab founders Sarah Dunn and Martin Felson.
