Recurrent themes in the work of Annette Lemieux (born 1957) include the horror of war, the nature of time, the elusive truth of memory, the nature of ideas, and the relationship between personal experience and cultural history. She creates visual poetry from objects and images associated with memory, such as secondhand furniture, used books, old photographs, and memorabilia. Lemieux has had solo exhibitions at Joseloff Gallery, Hartford; Artists Space, New York; Cash/Newhouse, New York; Josh Baer Gallery, New York; Daniel Weinberg Gallery, Los Angeles; Lisson Gallery, London; Matrix Gallery, Wadsworth Atheneum, Hartford; Mario Diacono Gallery, Boston; and Rhona Hoffman Gallery, Chicago, along with numerous group shows, including the 1987 Whitney Biennial. She received a BFA from Hartford Art School, Connecticut.
