Ethan O’Kane speaks at AIA Chicago
Ethan O’Kane, a third-year MArch student and the recipient of the 2022 Martin Roche Travel Scholarship, will present his award-supported research at AIA Chicago on September 19 at 6pm. From his research summary:
As an alternative to contemporary growth patterns in the Middle Eastern cities, the Pearling Pathway carves out public spaces in a rich urban fabric to commemorate the region’s history. The newly built architecture along the pathway offers a new reading of regionalism and preservation that carefully manipulates vernaculars and provokes its context for new growth. The presentation will pair images with architectural drawings, and reference architecture essays to contextualize the significance of these projects, and, reflect on the pathway’s meaning and significance with criticism and commendation.
Established in 1926 by architect Martin Roche, FAIA, the Martin Roche Travel Scholarship gives a student the opportunity to independently study architecture abroad.
