Espen Vatn named Spring 2018 Herbert S. Greenwald Critic

We are pleased to announce that Espen Vatn will serve as the 2018 Herbert S. Greenwald Visiting Critic. As Greenwald Critic, Vatn will run a week-long seminar with undergraduate and graduate students, and will give a public lecture about his work and research.

Espen Vatn is principal at Studio Vatn. Studio Vatn aims to develop precise and structurally articulated projects, exploring the relationship between landscape, program and building technology. The office has recently realized two film production studios, and is currently developing a viewing platform in the north of Norway. Vatn conducts research on early 20th century architecture, investigating spaces of production, social concerns, and questions of authorship. These projects have resulted in speculative models, publications, and exhibitions, such In Hannes Meyers Pocket’s, presented at Venice Biennale 2014. Espen is currently Assistant Professor at Oslo School of Architecture, where he has been teaching since 2011. In the spring of 2016, he was Visiting Professor at Universidad de Navarra, Spain, teaching a Fourth year studio. Prior to establishing his practice in 2012, he studied architecture at The Cooper Union and worked for OMA in Rotterdam.
