Booth at EXPO CHICAGO

Scholarship, creativity of UIC art faculty on display at EXPO CHICAGO The UIC College of Architecture, Design, and the Arts is at EXPO CHICAGO with a booth that highlights the diverse and innovative works of the School of Art & Art History faculty at UIC, Chicago’s public urban research university. The work underscores creativity, scholarship and research that is taking place at UIC, which is committed to creating knowledge that transforms the world at the intersection of thinking and creating. Booth 833 includes an interactive feminist timeline, signs that art fair attendees can check out and walk around with at EXPO, and works by Tony Tassett, Doug Ischar, Beate Geissler, Dan Peterman, Cauleen Smith, Dianna Frid, Deborah Stratman, and Silvia Malagrino. Gallery 400 and the Jane Addams Hull-House Museum, both located on the UIC campus and both units of the College, also contributed works from current shows, including work by artists Christa Donner and Aram Han Sifuentes. A centerpiece of the exhibition includes elements from a recent exhibition about Walter Netsch, the maverick architect of the UIC campus, and the inspiration for a design competition focused on imagining a new visual and performing arts center for the West Side of Chicago. The International Exposition of Contemporary and Modern Art is presented by Art Expositions, LLC. Now in its fifth year as a leading international art fair, EXPO CHICAGO is at Navy Pier Sept. 22-25. In addition to the exhibits at EXPO CHICAGO at Navy Pier, Gallery 400 on the UIC campus is serving as a community partner of the event and will host a lecture Saturday by Donner. She received her MFA in Studio Arts from UIC in 2005 and currently lives and works in Chicago. Donner’s lecture will focus on motherhood and the body as visceral, contested, and generative spaces in artistic production. Her lecture will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Gallery 400, 400 S. Peoria St., where her exhibition runs until Oct. 22. The exhibition Our New System will be on view Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. September 22, 2016
