American Framing, the US Pavilion exhibition at last year’s Venice Architecture Biennale, will be on view in Prague and Chicago this spring. The exhibition is co-curated by Paul Andersen and Paul Preissner and was commissioned by UIC; Ania Jaworska and Norman Kelley, Thomas Kelley’s practice (with Carrie Norman), designed furniture as part of the installation.

In Prague, the exhibition will appear at Galerie Jaroslava Fragnera from April 28 through June 24. The presentation will include models created by UIC students, photography by Chris Strong and UIC alum Daniel Shea, and a site-specific installation outside the gallery, which is located in central Prague.

The Chicago iteration of American Framing will be on view at Wrightwood 659, the Tadao Ando–designed gallery in Lincoln Park, from May 6 through July 16. From Wrightwood 659’s website:

Within the galleries at Wrightwood 659, visitors also will discover newly commissioned photographs from visual artist Daniel Shea, and photographer and videographer Chris Strong, which address the labor, culture, and materials of softwood construction. A collection of scale models, researched and designed by students at the University of Illinois Chicago School of Architecture, presents the history of wood framing. Two sets of furniture by Ania Jaworska and Norman Kelley are installed in the gallery and within the full-scale wood structure. Both sets reproduce historic furniture pieces in common dimensional lumber.
