Conceptual artist and sculptor Stephanie Brooks (born 1970) combines familiar texts and forms into social critique. Her work reorients the viewer’s relationship to everyday informational and diagrammatic signage, interrupting the process of automated acceptance, and projects new ways of considering social systems and categories. Brooks recently held a solo exhibition titled Chicago Down Time: New Paintings and Sculptures at Rhona Hoffman Gallery, Chicago. She also teaches graduate and undergraduate courses at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Brooks received a BFA from Ohio University, Athens; and an MFA from University of Illinois at Chicago.
