Painter Tatsuya McCoy (born 1962) wraps a playful, quasi-funky/semi-serious sense of subject in a hard-edged formalist style, producing elegant charades that approach true drama. With irony and deadpan humor, she does not fulfill the expectation of what a painting should look like but rather the expectation of emotion while looking at the painting. Her work has been exhibited at the Randolph Street Gallery, Chicago; Indianapolis Art League; Project Room, New York; Tough Gallery, Chicago; Ten in One Gallery, Chicago; Layton Gallery, Milwaukee College of Art and Design; among others.

McCoy earned a BFA from the State University of New York at Purchase and an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
