Madeleine Grynsztejn is the associate curator of twentieth-century painting and sculpture at the Art Institute of Chicago. Her latest show About Place: Recent Art of the Americas is the 76th incarnation of the American Exhibition. This is the first instance in which the American Exhibition includes a larger geographic outreach, bringing together artists from Canada, the United States, and Latin America. Grynsztejn came to Chicago from San Diego, where she was the associate curator of the Museum of Contemporary Art from 1986 1992. Her exhibitions include Krzsztof Wodiczko, which involved arranging the artist’s projections in San Diego and Tijuana, and Dos Cuidades/Two Cities, for which she acted as project curator commissioning billboards projects, bilingual publications, and film all tied to the theme of the United States/Mexico border. She received a BA from Newcomb College of Tulane University and an MA from Columbia University in the history of art.
